By a vote of 124 to 73, the Cuyahoga County Republican Party has endorsed gubernatorial candidate Jim Renacci in his bid to unseat fellow Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, the Renacci campaign announced in a news release.

"Our campaign to deliver accountable conservative leadership to Ohio continues to surge and we are thrilled to have the support and endorsement of the Cuyahoga County Republican Party," Rencacci said in a statement. "The establishment is fading and the largest republican voting block in the state wants change. I am that change, and as governor, I'll help revive our state and make Ohio a powerhouse once again."

Renacci previously won the endorsements of the the Lorain County Tea Party, the Geauga County Conservative Club, the Clermont County Republicans, the Butler County Republicans, the We the People Convention and the Strongsville GOP, according to the Cleveland Reporter.

DeWine will face off against Renacci in the May 3 GOP gubernatorial primary, according to Ballotpedia. The winner will go on to appear on ballots for the general election on Nov. 8.

DeWine, 74, was Republican John Kasich's choice to replace him as Ohio governor in 2019, the West Hamilton News reported.

Dewine is one of the longest-serving public officials in  state history, having been in elected office for 41 years. That includes stints in the Ohio State Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and as Ohio attorney general and lieutenant governor, the story said.
