Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Renacci has landed the endorsement of Cleveland Right to Life.

“Cleveland Right to Life is pleased to endorse Jim Renacci for Ohio governor," said the group's executive director, Kate Makra. “Mr. Renacci has a record of voting to protect life at all stages, and he has been a consistent ally to the pro-life movement. We are confident that he will honor his commitment to work tirelessly for the protection of all human beings, both born and unborn.”

Right to Life (RTL) is an organization dedicated to defending the lives of the unborn through education and legislation, according to its website. There are more than 3,000 local RTL chapters in addition to 50 statewide affiliates and the national federation.

Warren County Right to Life endorsed Renacci last month, according to the Buckeye Reporter.

“I have a record on life, my faith leads me and I will be a governor that champions for the unborn from the moment of conception," Renacci said at the time.

When he served as a congressman, Renacci co-sponsored the federal Heartbeat Protection Act, which would have prohibited doctors  from performing abortions after determining that the baby had a heartbeat, according to Track Bill. The legislation failed to advance beyond the House.

Incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine will face off against Renacci in the May 3 GOP gubernatorial primary. The winner will go on to appear on ballots for the general election on Nov. 8.
