Sec. of State Frank LaRose (R-Ohio), who is running for U.S. Senate, celebrated the decision of a federal judge to throw out a lawsuit protesting the requirement of voters showing ID at the polls. 

“From day one, my mission has been to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat in Ohio,” LaRose said. “Photo ID is a common sense step to achieve this goal. I'm proud that my team fought back against the left's lawsuit seeking to undermine fair and free elections and won.”

The lawsuit was filed in the North District of Ohio just over a year ago, and claimed that House Bill 458, which required voters to prove their identity using a photo ID instead of other methods, among other changes, were unconstitutional. The judge ruled that the requirements of HB458 imposed nothing more than a “minimal burden” on voters and would ensure election security. 

LaRose is running in Ohio’s March 19, 2024 Republican primary for U.S. Senate. The winner will challenge Democrat Sherrod Brown, who is running for his fourth term.

His opponents are State Sen. Matt Dolan (R-Chardon) and former auto dealer Bernie Moreno of Westlake.

LaRose represented Summit County in the Ohio State Senate (2011-2018) before being elected Ohio Secretary of State in 2019. He previously served in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of U.S. Special Forces as a Green Beret, and earned a B.S. from the Ohio State University.

An Akron native, LaRose, 44, lives in Columbus with his wife and three daughters.
