Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) issued a statement after attending President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address, outlining his legislative priorities and reflecting on recent national developments.
Husted emphasized his commitment to supporting working families in Ohio. “As we continue to move forward this year, my priorities will remain the same: help working families, lower the costs for them and create pathways for Ohioans to pursue their version of the American Dream,” he said.
In his remarks, Husted noted improvements in economic indicators over the past year. “Inflation is at its lowest point in five years, and wages have outpaced inflation every single month since January of 2025. That’s important—keeping more money in the pockets of Ohioans, as they don’t have to pay more for the products they need to live and thrive.”
He highlighted legislation such as the Working Families Tax Cut Act, passed last year. According to Husted, “From no tax on tips and overtime, to cutting taxes for seniors, this law helps Ohioans keep more of what they earn.”
On energy policy, Husted expressed support for domestic investment. “The president is also investing in a Made-in-America energy strategy, especially for our power plants. We need more affordable, reliable energy, and the president is leading.” He criticized previous administrations’ policies that reduced American energy production but stated that current efforts are increasing investments in power plants and job creation.
Husted also addressed border security and public safety measures. “The president is also delivering on his promise to secure our border and stop the flow of drugs into our country, into our communities—which saves lives in Ohio and across this country.” He added that violent crime rates have dropped significantly in Ohio due to new policies aimed at protecting citizens.
Reflecting on national pride during an Olympic year and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary, Husted said: “I valued the fact that the president raised the issue of how we have a shared patriotism in our American history as we celebrate our 250th anniversary of this great country.”
He concluded by encouraging civic engagement: “All Americans have a responsibility to continue to work to form a more perfect union. Every one of us can do a little bit more to make our country better and greater… We have so much to be thankful for as Americans and Ohioans, and I just want to say thank you for the opportunity to serve.”
