Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) joined Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio), NASA Glenn leadership, and Greater Cleveland economic and aerospace partners in Cleveland on May 5 to highlight NASA Glenn’s contribution to the recent Artemis II mission and its ongoing impact on Ohio’s economy.
The event underscored the importance of NASA Glenn, which contributes more than $1.9 billion annually to Ohio’s economy through research and innovation. “NASA Glenn continues to lead the way, contributing more than $1.9 billion to Ohio’s economy each year. When we look at the historic Artemis II mission, it’s important to recognize Ohioans played a key role in its success. It was great to be with these leaders, and I look forward to continuing to support NASA Glenn and the aerospace industry in Ohio,” said Husted.
Husted supported the Working Families Tax Cuts Act in July 2025, which included investments for the Artemis Program through Artemis V. NASA Glenn leads spacecraft mechanisms, structures, and pyrotechnics work for Artemis missions. The Neil A. Armstrong Test Facility Space Simulation Center in Sandusky was used for testing the Orion capsule before its launch.
Husted has also secured legislative measures supporting NASA Glenn’s operations: language encouraging use of existing hypersonic testing facilities like those at Sandusky; full funding for NASA under fiscal year 2026 appropriations; support for Fission Surface Power development led by NASA Glenn; and $110 million set aside for nuclear propulsion systems with leadership from the center.
Husted has held several public offices prior to joining the U.S. Senate—including Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, secretary of state, and lieutenant governor—according to his official website. He serves on Senate committees focusing on health, education, labor and pensions, small business and entrepreneurship, environment and public works, as well as aging issues.according to his official website.
