Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) met with oil and gas industry leaders in Zanesville on April 7 to discuss regulatory and operational issues facing the sector, focusing on how Ohio can strengthen America’s domestic energy supply.
The roundtable aimed to address ways to reduce reliance on foreign energy, expand domestic supply, and streamline regulations that impact production. Husted said, “It was energizing to be on the ground in Zanesville today with leaders who are focused on doing just that—reducing reliance on foreign energy, expanding domestic supply and cutting red tape that slows us down.”
Husted highlighted Ohio’s role in supporting American energy production. He said, “Ohio is leading the way in powering America’s energy future, and the future of reliable energy depends on policies that boost American production while lowering costs for hardworking families.”
Husted supported the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which became law in July 2025. The law extends a clean hydrogen production tax credit until January 1, 2028 to support sustainability efforts such as Ohio’s Appalachian Clean Energy Hub (ARCH2), eliminates the natural gas tax for ten years, and expands leasing for oil, gas, and coal extraction.
His first piece of legislation reversed a regulation from President Biden’s administration regarding appliance efficiency standards for families and businesses.
According to the official website, Husted serves on Senate committees focused on health, education, labor and pensions; small business and entrepreneurship; environment and public works; and aging. He previously served as Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives—where he advanced tax reductions—and later as Ohio secretary of state and lieutenant governor before joining the U.S. Senate.
Husted earned both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Dayton according to his official website. He has also been recognized for defending voter roll integrity before the U.S. Supreme Court.
