Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) has requested that his Senate salary be withheld during the ongoing partial government shutdown, which has now entered its 11th day. In a letter addressed to the Financial Clerk of the Senate, Husted stated he would not accept his paycheck while federal employees such as TSA officers, FEMA personnel, and Coast Guard members face missed payments.

Husted commented on the situation by saying, “Now, with the shutdown in its 11th day, I cannot in good conscience accept a paycheck while TSA officers, FEMA personnel and Coast Guard members are about to miss theirs.” He further added that he will continue to withhold his salary until legislation is passed to reopen the government.

The senator noted that the House had already passed a bipartisan funding bill and expressed hope for prompt action from Senate Democrats. The full text of Husted’s letter is available online.
