The Brooklyn Republican Club recently voted unanimously to endorse gubernatorial candidate Jim Renacci in his bid to unseat incumbent Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, a news release on Renacci's website said this week.  

Renacci and running mate Joe Knopp were also recently endorsed by Cleveland Right to Life, the Parma Republican Club and the Northwest Ohio Conservative Coalition.  

"Jim Renacci epitomizes what our state needs today, a businessman who understands the taxpayer's frustrations with everyday life, not a lifelong politician who looks at the Ohio taxpayer as just another vote," the Brooklyn Republican Club said in the release.

The 63-year-old Renacci is an accountant and entrepreneur, his website said. He was elected to the U.S. Congress in 2010 as part of the Tea Party movement. Later, he endorsed Donald Trump over then-Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the 2016 presidential primary.

DeWine will face Renacci in the May 3 GOP gubernatorial primary, a Ballotpedia report said. The winner will be put on the ballot for the general election on Nov. 8 of this year.

DeWine, 75, was Kasich's choice to replace him as governor of Ohio in 2019, a West Hamilton News report said. Having been in elected office for more than 41 years, DeWine is one of the longest-serving public officials in state history. He has been a member of the Ohio State Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate and has also served as Ohio attorney general and Ohio lieutenant governor.
