The John Carroll wrestling team started off their 2022-23 season against a talented Lake Erie College team ranked #21 in Division II last season, where no team scores were kept.
Instead, the squads wrestled on two mats simultaneously while the 21 total matches that occurred counted only for individual records.
Kale Buckiso was the lone Blue Streak to win twice, as he defeated Austin Fietz, 6-3, and Brady O'Connor, 8-4, at 149.
Returning All-American Luke Reicosky also started his final season off strong with a victory over Jacob Potok, 4-1 at 165.
Brody Arrundale, Jesse Kanatzar, and Thomas Lunt were the other JCU wrestlers who earned wins as well.
Arrundale defeated Jordan Barnett in a tight match, 3-2, at 184, while Kanatzar beat Brylan Clouse by the same score at 197.
Freshman Lunt earned his first collegiate victory after his opponent forfeited because of injury during the 285 pound match.
The Blue Streaks will be back on the mats next Saturday, November 12 as they head to the Trine Invitational in Angola, Indiana starting at 10am. Their first dual meet of the season will be Tuesday, November 15 at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center against Mount Union at 7pm.
