National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week volunteer opportunities

The Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL) will host a week of community service opportunities during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week—an annual observance designed to educate the public, draw attention to the issues of poverty and food insecurity, and build support for anti-poverty organizations.

From Saturday, Nov. 12, to Saturday, Nov. 19, students interested in volunteering are invited to participate in the upcoming opportunities:

  • Volunteer at the Food and Clothing Distribution Center at the Father Michael Wittman Ozanam Center.
  • Help Kids Against Hunger, a CWRU student organization whose mission is to reduce the number of hungry children in the U.S., at their next big food packing event.
  • Cozy up with a winter act of kindness with blanket making with Labre, a student organization that delivers food and friendship to Cleveland’s unhoused community on Monday nights.
  • Serve a hot meal with H.O.P.E. Hot Meal Soup Kitchen.
  • Sort holiday donations at Family Promise and distribute the decorations to families in the shelter.
