Liam McDonnell and Jonah Venos Set to Rep JCU at the US Open

From November 30, 2022 post.

John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving will have a presence at one of the largest national meets of the year.

The Blue Streaks are sending two swimmers to the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina. Some of the best swimmers in the world will have the opportunity to swim, such as seven-time Gold Olympic medalist Katie Ledecky. Other Olympic Gold medalists to swim will be Bobby Finke and Chase Kalisz.

Liam McDonnell will compete in four events and Jonah Venos will take part in one event to represent John Carroll this weekend.

The Blue Streaks will be tested, as they compete against some of the best swimmers from top NCAA Division I programs and swimmers from around the world in the 50 Meter Long Course pool.

"Qualifying for the US Open is a very difficult thing to do," said Head Coach Tanner Barton. "Jonah and Liam have continued to improve while training here at John Carroll, and they now have the opportunity to compete alongside the very best."

McDonnell will kick things off with the 50 Free on Thursday, and has a seed time of 20.24, ranking him at 67th of the 77 swimmers.

McDonnell continues on Friday, where he will participate in the 100 meter Backstroke and the 100 meter Butterfly. McDonnel's seed times for the events are 47.61 and 47.12, respectively.

Jonah Venos will compete in the 100 meter Breaststroke on Friday, and has a seed time of 54.86.

"Friday will be an extremely exciting day for JCU," said Barton.

McDonnell will finish up the weekend on Saturday, where he participates in the 100 meter freestyle.
