Kent State remained unbeaten in Mid-American Conference play with a 60-44 road victory over Ohio, its first at the Convocation Center since 2017.
The Golden Flashes (10-3, 2-0 MAC) used stifling defense to hold the Bobcats to a 1-of-21 shooting performance from three-point range and their lowest scoring total of the season. Ohio shot just 29.1% overall from the floor.
Sophomore Bridget Dunn led Kent State with a game-high 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to match her career-high. Seniors Clare Kelly and Katie Shumate added nine points each. Shumate hauled in a season-best 11 rebounds.
Shumate scored the first four points in the wire-to-wire victory. After the lead was trimmed to three with 2:27 left in the opening period, the Flashes closed strong and took a 16-8 lead into the second.
The lead was just three again late in the second period but freshman Corynne Hauser and Kelly scored the final eight points to make it 32-21 at halftime.
Kent State held Ohio to just one basket over the final eight minutes of the third period, including a five-minute scoreless stretch, while building a 51-30 lead.
The Flashes are scheduled to go back on the road to play at Miami on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
