CLEVELAND, O.H. – Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11) hosted an OH-11 Human Trafficking Prevention Summit Saturday at the Jerry Sue Thornton Center at Cuyahoga Community College. The summit was held in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Center for Countering Human Trafficking (CCHT) and featured expert presentations, partner representative panels, and a lived experience expert’s perspective on best practices to combat the crime.
“Trafficking thrives in darkness, so the summit is about shining a light on this scourge. Human trafficking is a horrible crime that takes away the freedom, well-being, and dignity of its victims. Every community is potentially at risk, including Northeast Ohio, and it’s up to all of us to know the signs so we can prevent trafficking and support survivors. I’m grateful that the Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Countering Human Trafficking partnered with us on this summit and appreciate all the local agencies and constituents who took part,” said Congresswoman Shontel Brown.
The summit featured remarks from Congresswoman Brown and Angie M. Salazar, Special Agent in Charge, Homeland Security Investigations Detroit. Representatives from DHS’s Blue Campaign and Homeland Security Investigations also participated. The CCHT is a DHS-wide effort comprised of 16 supporting offices and components and is led by Homeland Security Investigations.
This is Congresswoman Brown’s second major constituent services event in recent weeks. In May, Congresswoman Brown hosted a Small Business Expo for aspiring entrepreneurs with federal, state, and local agencies and Small Business Administration head Isabella Casillas Guzman.
