This week in City of Cleveland history.

Died June 13, 2014; former Cleveland Browns player and coach

Charles Henry Noll died on June 13, 2014. He was known for his long career in professional football as a player and coach. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Noll played for the Cleveland Browns and won two NFL Championships with them. Later, as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he led the team to four Super Bowl wins over 23 years. Noll was recognized for building strong defensive teams and for promoting diversity in the NFL by giving opportunities to African American players and coaches. His connection to Cleveland remained important throughout his life, starting with his early football career and education in the city. Noll was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993. He passed away in Pennsylvania after suffering from health issues. His contributions to football and his ties to Cleveland are part of his lasting legacy.
