West Park Animal Hospital issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.
Thanksgiving Pet Safety!
Here are some things you may not think about or you might already know, but need to remember!
1. Be cautious of the foods you make and that they stay on the the table! Foods like onions, grapes, raisins, chocolate and fatty foods can be hard for your dog to digest and can be poisonous.
2. Be aware of where you put the trash after the big clean up! After all that turkey we get so tired that sometimes the trash does not make it to the can. If you throw your turkey carcass away be mindful to keep it out of your pets reach!
3. With COVID-19 making your home quiet from visitors, if you have family over for the holidays it may stress your pet out more then usual. Be aware of your dogs behavior and body language. If the crowd becomes too much for them it might be a good idea to give them some time in a quiet room or crate. That way your guests are safe from potential injury and your pets are not so stressed.
4. Be cautious of your exits! With guests coming and going your door will open maybe more often then usual. Be aware of your pets whereabouts so they do not run away. No one would enjoy the holiday without their pets by their side.
5. If you are traveling with your pet - Make sure you pack for your pet! food, water, bowls, and a familiar blanket or pet bed will make traveling a more comfortable experience. Also make sure your pet is up to date on routine vetting and has an up to date identification tag. If your pet runs away in an unfamiliar place it can be twice as hard to find them!
