Innovation: 8 patents granted in Cleveland in week ending Aug. 15

Patent 16

There were eight patents granted in Cleveland in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is four less than the week before. Patents included a chemical pump housing for negative pressure system.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 15 belonged to The Sherwin-Williams Company who filed in Oct. 31, 2017.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
